Our 1st Grade Pacing Guide

Here is some information that you could use to help guide your child at home during our school closure. 


  1. Read 20 minutes a day. (Students may access Raz Kids to read online.) 

       2.  Keep a Writing Journal (Students should write 4 or more sentences) Some things students may write about can be their day, about the story that they read, or even create their own stories. 


      3.  Practice Math and Addition Facts (Students may make flashcards for a fun activity)

Technology Tools that can be used at home:


Office 365

ALL students have access to Office 365. They log in with their PWCS email address. Students in 3rd grade and up have access to email. All students can access Word, PowerPoint, Sway, OneDrive, and Teams at home. 5th graders have access to Google Apps as well.

    Collaboration and Creativity

  • VoiceThread - Create presentations, similar to PowerPoint, that students can interact with. Students can reply with videos, audio recordings, or typed messages. Login with your computer username and password
  • Flipgrid -Create a grid topic that students can reply to with their own 5-minute video recordings. Choose the option to sign in with your Microsoft Office 365 account.
  • Wixie – 1st-4th grade login via Clever. Wixie is a publishing and creativity platform that lets students share what they know through their writing, their voice, and their art.
  • Sway – A Microsoft Office app that makes it easy to create and share interactive reports, personal stories, presentations, and more. Students/staff login to Office 365 to access Sway.

Khan Academy – you can post a link of a video you want students to watch. They do not have to log in.

Create Your Own Videos

Screencast-O-Matic: Choose the FREE recorder. You can record for 15 minutes. Choose options for recording your desktop screen, yourself, or both.

Skills Practice

DreamBox – You may assign specific lessons to students.

MyOn - You can assign books, graphic organizers, etc.

SOL Pass – Password: kinglion (3rd-5th grade) - login via Clever

Quizziz – This is like Kahoot only students go at their own pace. You can open a session in the morning and keep it open all day.

Kahoot is offering their premium version for free right now!

Breakout EDU is offering free breakouts kids can do from home.

This week:

In Reading we will  continue learning about how to make text connections. (Text to Self, Text to Text, and Text to World). We will also be working on visualizing when we read a story.

In Math we will work on Addition, counting on and introducing doubles facts.

In Social Studies we will begin to introduce important information about Virginia and Patriotic Symbols
